“Heinrich Gerlach (18 August 1908 – 27 March 1991) was a German soldier of the 14th Panzer Division in the Second World War and later a Latin and German teacher. His semi-autobiographical novel of the Battle of Stalingrad, The Forsaken Army, re-written with the help of hypnosis after it was seized by the Soviets, was published in Germany in 1957.
