The Netherlands is known for its water management and leads the way in infrastructure, energy solutions and utility construction. And for good reason. After all, these are industries that are constantly evolving with complex projects and where failure costs are always lurking. To get this under control, more than 20 years ago, the introduction of Systems Engineering was a major catalyst. The government realized that processes needed more structure and that the innovative power of the market needed to be harnessed. However, the application of Systems Engineering in construction was unique and had yet to fully take form. By now, this way of working is commonplace in the Netherlands and no other country has such a high adoption rate.
For the first time, 50 industry pioneers are taking stock. They talk candidly about their experiences, perceptions, frustrations, dreams and hopes. They also provide us with a variety of lessons learned that inspire us to utilize the potential of Systems Engineering even further.
